PESHAWAR (APP) — September 18, 2026: Members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly were briefed on cervical cancer prevention and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination ahead of the province's planned vaccination campaign in November 2026.
The orientation session was organised by Jhpiego Pakistan in collaboration with the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) and the KP Health Department. Speaker KP Assembly Babar Saleem Swati attended the session as chief guest, while Health Minister Khaleeq-ur-Rehman delivered the keynote address. Jhpiego Pakistan Country Director Dr Aminah Khan led the organisation's delegation.

The session brought together provincial ministers, advisers, special assistants to the chief minister and members of the provincial assembly. Technical experts briefed lawmakers on cervical cancer prevention, HPV vaccination and the role of community awareness in the upcoming campaign.
Lawmakers also participated in a question-and-answer session covering vaccine confidence, community awareness and campaign implementation. Participants discussed ways to address concerns and support communication around the vaccination programme.
According to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), parliamentarians expressed support for the planned campaign and reaffirmed their intention to use their public roles to promote awareness and assist implementation across the province.
The KP government has scheduled the HPV vaccination campaign for November 2026. Earlier provincial preparations have included field-level planning, logistics, human resources, communication activities and monitoring arrangements.

The campaign is aimed at adolescent girls. Earlier KP Health Department planning identified girls aged 9 to 14 as the target group for HPV vaccination.
The Federal Directorate of Immunization states that cervical cancer is linked to persistent HPV infection and that the disease is largely preventable through HPV vaccination and regular screening. It also notes that early detection and prompt treatment can help prevent deaths from the disease.
Pakistan introduced HPV vaccination nationally in 2025, initially targeting girls aged 9–14 in Punjab, Sindh, Islamabad and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The rollout was planned in phases, with KP scheduled for introduction in 2026.
Jhpiego says it has supported HPV vaccine introduction and expansion in Pakistan in partnership with governments and other health organisations. Its Pakistan programme lists immunisation and health-system strengthening among its areas of work.
The latest briefing comes as KP authorities prepare for the November campaign, with community engagement and public information forming part of preparations for the provincial rollout.
