ISLAMABAD (Dawn/The Express Tribune) — September 22, 2026: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has reiterated that the party will proceed with its planned September 27 long march towards Islamabad, saying the protest will remain within the Constitution and the law.
Speaking at a press conference in Peshawar on Monday, Gohar said PTI would not take law and order into its own hands and maintained that Pakistan's interests and public peace would remain a priority.
“When we go to Islamabad, the supremacy of the Constitution and the law will prevail,” Gohar said, adding that the party was not going to the capital to “conquer” it or turn it into “Somnath”.

Gohar also rejected comparisons between PTI's political mobilisation and militant activity. “Are we terrorists? We are being told that we will be dealt with like terrorists. We are political figures, and we will not arrive like terrorists,” he said.

PTI had announced the September 27 march to demand the release of party founder Imran Khan. The party says it intends to mobilise supporters from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of the country before moving towards Islamabad.
Gohar said PTI had pursued its grievances through Parliament and the courts, claiming that the party had approached the high courts 25 times and the Supreme Court 19 times. He said its demands included medical treatment for Imran Khan, hearings in his cases and permission for meetings.
He also claimed that around 1,500 PTI workers had been arrested and alleged that additional arrests were being planned. These figures and allegations were presented by Gohar and have not been independently established in the statements reviewed.

The PTI chairman said communication channels with authorities remained open and called for both sides to reduce tensions.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi separately reaffirmed the party's intention to proceed with the march, describing peaceful protest as a democratic and constitutional right. Afridi said PTI had raised its concerns through the provincial and national assemblies but had not received what he described as a positive response.
Afridi also alleged that PTI workers and members of Imran Khan's family had faced pressure and arrests. His claims concerning the treatment of party workers and family members represent the PTI's account of events.
The latest statements come amid heightened preparations by authorities in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and surrounding areas ahead of several planned political demonstrations.

According to a report published by Dawn, Islamabad police have deployed more than 2,000 containers at various locations, including key entry points and roads, while authorities are preparing security arrangements for the expected protests. Police officials cited by the newspaper estimated that between 20,000 and 25,000 protesters could gather in Islamabad.
The same report said Islamabad police had requested Rs827 million for expenses related to the planned protests, including container rentals, accommodation, transportation and anti-riot equipment. It also reported that additional police personnel and equipment were being sought from Punjab and Sindh.

Security preparations are also being strengthened in Rawalpindi and Attock, including the placement of containers and additional police deployments at key routes connecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Punjab and the Islamabad-Rawalpindi region.
Separately, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has warned PTI against proceeding with the Islamabad march and said the government would take measures to prevent prolonged disruption in the capital. The government has maintained that its security measures are aimed at maintaining public order and preventing disruption.
