Suicide Bombing at Police Checkpoint in Dera Ismail Khan Kills at Least 11

A suicide bombing targeted a roadside police checkpoint in Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, northwestern Pakistan, today.

A suicide bomber detonated an explosives-laden vehicle at the checkpoint. According to police and rescue officials, the blast killed at least 11 people and wounded about 30 others. Some of the injured were reported in critical condition and were taken to a nearby hospital.

Bilal Faizi, a spokesman for the provincial emergency service (Rescue 1122), confirmed the location in the DI Khan district. The dead and wounded were being transported for treatment.

Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement.

This fits a broader pattern of increased militant violence in Pakistan in recent years, with many attacks claimed by the TTP and groups like the Baloch Liberation Army. The TTP has carried out numerous assaults on security forces and other targets, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa near the Afghan border.
