Los Angeles (Variety) — July 8, 2026: Paramount has officially moved up the release of its upcoming animated feature Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, announcing that the film will premiere globally on Paramount+ on July 25, instead of its previously planned October release. Alongside the announcement, the studio also unveiled the film’s first full trailer and a series of promotional images.
The movie continues the story of Aang after the events of the acclaimed animated television series and follows the Avatar as he embarks on a new journey to protect the future of the Air Nomads. According to the official synopsis, Aang discovers the existence of an ancient power that could help preserve his culture, prompting a global quest with his longtime companions before that power falls into dangerous hands.

The newly released trailer introduces Tagah, an ancient Airbender voiced by Dave Bautista, whose appearance challenges Aang’s long-held belief that he is the last surviving Airbender. The film features Eric Nam as the voice of Aang, alongside Jessica Matten as Katara, Román Zaragoza as Sokka, Steven Yeun as Zuko and Dionne Quan as Toph.

The official synopsis states: “Avatar Aang, the world’s last Airbender, learns of an ancient power that could save his culture from extinction.”
It further adds: “With the help of his friends, he embarks on a global quest to find it before it falls into the wrong hands and threatens to upend the peace they sacrificed everything to achieve.”

The film is based on the original animated series created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, who also contributed to the story. The screenplay was written by Tim Hedrick and Christopher Yost, while Lauren Montgomery directed the project with co-directors Steve Ahn and William Mata. The production is backed by Avatar Studios, a division of Nickelodeon Animation Studio established in 2021.

Industry reports indicate the film’s release strategy changed significantly over the past year. It was initially planned for a theatrical release before Paramount shifted it to an exclusive streaming debut on Paramount+. Entertainment outlets also reported that an unauthorized version of the film circulated online earlier this year, although Paramount has not publicly attributed the earlier release date solely to that incident.
