MUZAFFARABAD — August 01, 2026: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman and former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has reiterated his party’s commitment to greater political representation and self-governance for the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), urging voters to support the PPP in the upcoming elections.

“I want to secure for the people of Kashmir the same rights that every Pakistani citizen enjoys, and the foremost among these rights is the right to self-governance,” Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said.

He explained that self-governance means electoral outcomes should accurately reflect the will of the voters.

“The government of Kashmir and the decisions about Kashmir’s future must be made by the people of Kashmir themselves,” he added.

Bilawal further argued that Azad Jammu and Kashmir should have representation in national forums where decisions are taken on issues such as water resources, electricity and budgetary matters.

According to the PPP chairman, greater institutional representation would enable Kashmir’s elected leadership to participate more directly in policy discussions affecting the region. His remarks form part of the party’s campaign ahead of the ongoing AJK electoral process, during which political parties have outlined differing visions for governance and regional development.

Calling on voters to support the PPP, Bilawal Zardari urged them to cast their ballots for the party’s election symbol.
