LONDON (The Guardian) — August 19, 2026: Charles Spencer, the younger brother of the late Princess Diana, is set to publish a new book offering his personal account of her life and the period surrounding her death.

Titled Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, the book will be published in the UK on September 22, shortly before the 30th anniversary of Diana’s death. Publisher Penguin Michael Joseph described it as the first time Spencer has spoken publicly at length about his sister.

Spencer said the approaching anniversary and continued requests for interviews prompted him to document his memories rather than leave the public discussion to accounts he considers inaccurate.

“With the 30th anniversary of Diana’s tragic death on the skyline, I’ve been inundated yet again with requests for interviews about my sister,” Spencer said.

He added that he wanted to record his recollections “once and for all” rather than continue reading what he described as opinions based on “untruths that have become accepted over time.”

The book is expected to cover Diana’s life as well as the week surrounding her death in August 1997. Reuters reported that the publication will provide Spencer’s perspective on his sister and her legacy.

Spencer delivered the eulogy at Diana’s funeral at Westminster Abbey in September 1997, following her death in Paris on August 31 that year.

In discussing the purpose of the new book, Spencer said: “The aim of this book is to tell the truth about Diana from her brother’s perspective.”

He said he intended the account to be positive and reflective of the way he had attempted to speak about Diana during her funeral.

The publisher’s publishing director, Daniel Bunyard, said the book contains “many revelations that will draw considerable attention” while describing it as a tribute to Diana.

Spencer also said he hoped the book would appeal both to people who remember Diana and to younger readers who did not experience her public life.

He described his sister as a distinctive and complex personality, highlighting her charisma, compassion and self-doubt.
