Delhi Security Alert Exploited to Harass Pakistani High Commission Staff, Sources

The current high security alert across the Indian capital, near the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk temples, is being used as a pretext to step up harassment and restrictions on personnel at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, according to Baaghi Tv diplomatic sources in New Delhi.

The alert, which authorities link to retaliation for the February 6 mosque suicide bombing in Islamabad, has led to intensified police and paramilitary deployments in heritage zones, markets and religious sites.

Pakistani diplomatic circles describe the escalation as part of a recurring pattern in which security pretexts are employed to target and constrain the functioning of their mission.

For years Pakistani diplomats in Delhi have documented repeated incidents of mistreatment, including constant vehicle tailing, round-the-clock surveillance of residences, deliberate disruptions to utilities such as water, electricity and newspaper deliveries, arbitrary questioning during routine movements, and in some cases forced relocation from leased premises. Similar complaints were raised in 2018 and again in 2025, with formal protests lodged over violations of diplomatic privileges and immunities guaranteed under the Vienna Convention.

In the present situation sources close to the High Commission report that the alert has enabled even tighter controls. Staff face increased random checks while traveling to and from the mission, heightened monitoring around both the chancery and residential compounds, and additional justifications for limiting day-to-day diplomatic activities that were already heavily restricted. The cumulative effect, according to these accounts, severely hampers the ability of the mission to carry out its mandated functions.

The developments unfold against a long history of reciprocal diplomatic friction between the two neighbours, marked by earlier staff expulsions on espionage grounds, mutual reductions in mission strength, and ongoing protests over the treatment of envoys. From the Pakistani perspective the latest episode represents yet another attempt to undermine the diplomatic presence in New Delhi, further straining already fragile bilateral ties at a time when cross-border rhetoric remains sharp.
