FIR Registered Against Badshah Over Alleged Obscene Lyrics and Visuals in ‘Tateeree’

Indian rapper and singer Badshah has landed in legal trouble following the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against him for allegedly featuring obscene, vulgar, and objectionable content in his recently released Haryanvi song Tateeree.

The FIR was lodged on March 6, 2026, at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Sector-20, Panchkula, based on a written complaint by social activist Abhay Chaudhary, a resident of the Chandimandir area. Authorities have charged Badshah under Section 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to obscene acts and songs that outrage public decency, as well as Sections 3 and 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, for the alleged derogatory and indecent portrayal of women.

The controversy erupted shortly after the track’s release around March 1, 2026, on Badshah’s official YouTube channel. A collaboration with Haryanvi singer Simran Jaglan, the song blends traditional folk elements with hip-hop but drew widespread criticism for its lyrics containing double-entendres, sexually suggestive slang, and content critics say objectifies women and minors. The music video further intensified the backlash with scenes depicting dancers, some in school-uniform-like attire, performing provocative gestures on rooftops, in classroom-like settings dubbed “Badshala,” and aboard a Haryana Roadways bus, which many argue distorts educational environments and promotes inappropriate messages to youth.

The Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW) took suo motu cognizance of multiple complaints highlighting the song’s indecent vocabulary, violation of cultural norms, and potential harm to women and minors. Chairperson Renu Bhatia issued summons to Badshah, requiring him to appear for a hearing on March 13, 2026, in Panipat.

In response to the FIR and mounting pressure, the music video has been removed from YouTube following legal complaints and government intervention. Haryana Police have initiated proceedings to issue a Look Out Circular (LOC) to prevent Badshah from leaving the country, issued notices for the content’s removal from other social media platforms, and are conducting ongoing raids and investigations. No arrest has been reported as of March 7, 2026.
