India’s Border Force Considers Using Snakes and Crocodiles Along Bangladesh Frontier

India’s Border Security Force is reportedly considering an unusual plan to deploy snakes and crocodiles in 175 kilometers of riverine and marshland areas along the border with Bangladesh.

According to Bangladeshi media, the unconventional proposal is aimed at securing those stretches of the frontier where traditional fencing is difficult or impossible to install.

Indian media reports said that on the instructions of Amit Shah, the Border Security Force has asked senior officers in the eastern and northeastern sectors to examine the operational feasibility of using reptiles in swampy border regions.

The move is intended to prevent illegal border crossings, smuggling and other unlawful activities in areas that remain vulnerable because of difficult terrain.

It may be noted that the border between India and Bangladesh is around 409 kilometers long, while nearly 175 kilometers of the frontier still cannot be fenced due to rivers, marshes and mountain streams.

The Border Security Force believes that such a measure could help improve security in these unfenced and sensitive areas.
