KSE-100 Surges Over 5% in Sharp Rebound

PSX-1-6

The benchmark KSE-100 Index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a powerful intraday rally on Wednesday, surging more than 5% on strong bargain hunting, before the exchange suspended trading.

As of the latest available data around 12:40 PM, the KSE-100 had reached 156,204.89, posting a gain of 7,461.58 points or +5.02% from Tuesday’s close of 148,743.31. The index touched an intraday high of 156,233.39 and a low of 151,262.76, with trading volume crossing 349 million shares and total value traded exceeding Rs. 24 billion.

The KSE-100 Total Return Index (KSE100PR) also jumped 2,301.40 points or +4.78% to 48,179.00, while the broader All-Share Index advanced over 4,000 points to 93,169.76. Blue-chip sectors including banking, oil & gas, and fertilizers led the gains.

However, trading at the PSX has now been suspended. The exchange status is currently listed as “Suspended,” halting further activity for the session.

Analysts linked the strong rebound to aggressive buying after the index’s weak performance in the first quarter of 2026, during which the KSE-100 dropped around 15%. Yesterday’s 1.29% gain provided some relief, but today’s sharp move triggered heightened volatility, leading to the suspension.

This comes amid ongoing concerns over foreign outflows, geopolitical risks, and global commodity trends.

The sharp intraday surge followed by suspension highlights continued volatility in the market. Sustained recovery will likely depend on positive economic cues, interest rate expectations, and easing external pressures.
