National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission Stays Bailable Arrest Warrants Against Salman Khan

India: The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) on Wednesday stayed the execution of bailable arrest warrants issued against Bollywood actor Salman Khan in a consumer complaint involving his endorsement of Rajshree Elaichi, which has been alleged to be surrogate advertising for pan masala products.

The apex consumer body also directed the Jaipur District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission to submit the complete records of the case. The matter has been listed for further hearing on April 15, 2026.

The development comes after Salman Khan approached the NCDRC challenging the lower commissions’ orders. The district commission in Jaipur had issued bailable warrants against the actor in January 2026 for alleged non-compliance with an ex-parte interim order directing the removal of the advertisements. These warrants were later upheld by the Rajasthan State Consumer Commission in March 2026.

The complainant, Yogendra Singh, had accused the advertisement of being misleading and promoting pan masala under the guise of elaichi (cardamom) promotion, in violation of advertising norms.

Salman Khan’s petition to the NCDRC highlighted that the district forum had refused to provide certified copies of the arrest-related orders, hindering his ability to challenge them effectively.

With the NCDRC’s intervention, the execution of the warrants has been kept in abeyance until the next hearing. The case has seen multiple rounds of proceedings, with earlier attempts to execute the warrants and even considerations for non-bailable warrants being stayed at various stages by higher forums, including interventions by the Rajasthan High Court in related matters.

This relief provides temporary respite to the actor amid ongoing legal scrutiny over celebrity endorsements in the controversial pan masala category.
