Pakistan has reaffirmed its strong solidarity with neighboring Iran during a high-level diplomatic meeting in the capital, amid ongoing regional tensions and internal challenges facing Tehran.

Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif met with Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Dr. Reza Amiri Moghaddam on Tuesday. The discussions, described by official sources as cordial and constructive, focused on bolstering bilateral relations rooted in mutual respect, shared cultural and religious values, and deep historical people-to-people ties.

According to statements from the Pakistani Ministry of Defence, Minister Asif emphasized that both the government and the people of Pakistan “stand firmly with the people of Iran in difficult circumstances.” This comes as Iran grapples with domestic unrest, including protests linked to economic pressures, and broader geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East.

The meeting highlighted Pakistan’s consistent position of supporting Iran’s sovereignty and stability, with no indication of new military commitments or escalation. Officials stressed peaceful cooperation and non-interference in internal affairs, aligning with Islamabad’s longstanding advocacy for regional calm through diplomacy.

Pakistan and Iran share a nearly 900-kilometer border and have historically cooperated on issues like border security, countering militant groups in Balochistan, and trade. Relations have remained resilient despite occasional strains, including cross-border incidents in recent years.

The reaffirmation follows Pakistan’s earlier diplomatic backing for Iran during the 2025 Israel-Iran conflict (often called the “12-day war”), where Islamabad condemned external aggressions and urged de-escalation. No evidence suggests this latest statement involves military pacts or direct involvement in Iran’s current internal matters.

Analysts view the gesture as routine diplomatic warmth, aimed at reinforcing brotherly relations at a time when Iran faces external pressures and domestic protests. Pakistan continues to call for peaceful resolutions and respect for sovereignty across the region.
