PMML stages motorcycle push march against inflation and fuel price hike in Lahore

LAHORE: Pakistan Markazi Muslim League (PMML) Lahore organised a motorcycle push march from Shaheen Complex to Lahore Press Club to protest against the increase in petroleum prices, rising inflation and government economic policies.

A large number of citizens, traders, students and workers joined the protest. The participants pushed their motorcycles on the road and later gathered outside the Lahore Press Club to protest against rising inflation. Some protesters also threw their motorcycles onto the road as a symbolic act, saying that increasing prices had made daily travel, earning a living and managing household expenses very difficult.

Muslim Youth League President Tabish Qayyum, PMML Lahore General Secretary Chaudhry Hameedul Hassan Gujjar, Deputy Secretary General Khalid Naik Gujjar, and Milli Rickshaw Union Punjab President Rana Shamshad were among the leaders who attended the demonstration.

Addressing the participants, Tabish Qayyum said the government had raised petroleum prices despite only minor changes in the international market. He alleged that the decision was taken under pressure from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), adding that the move had increased economic difficulties for ordinary citizens.

Chaudhry Hameedul Hassan Gujjar said inflation had badly affected low-income families ahead of Eidul Azha. He said livestock markets were seeing fewer buyers and business activity in local markets had slowed down, while the increase in fuel prices had added further burden on the public.

The protesters demanded an immediate reduction in fuel prices, withdrawal of heavy taxes and practical relief measures for the public. PMML leaders warned that protests would expand if the government failed to address public concerns.
