Political differences should not undermine fundamental rights: Dr Muzammil Iqbal

LAHORE: Pakistan Markazi Muslim League (PMML) spokesperson Dr Muzammil Iqbal Hashmi said political differences should not be allowed to undermine fundamental rights or humanitarian considerations. He said a court decision was initially welcomed by PML-N leaders but was later challenged. He added that the medical report of PTI founder Imran Khan had been submitted to the Supreme Court, and the court had reached its decision on the basis of that report.
Dr Hashmi said the government should distinguish between political opposition and fundamental rights. He urged the authorities not to adopt an unfair approach regarding Imran Khan’s health and medical treatment.
He said PMML stood for ethical values in politics and wanted to promote a culture of principled and responsible political conduct. He added that the party had long been advocating a Grand National Dialogue to address the country’s political and economic challenges.
Dr Hashmi said Pakistan’s political crisis had deepened because those in power often viewed suppressing opponents as their responsibility, while opposition parties remained focused on returning to power. He said political parties must rise above personal and partisan interests and work for the national interest.
He called for an end to politics of hatred, division and confrontation. He stressed the need to promote national unity, political tolerance and reconciliation, while bringing an end to political victimisation.
