London (CNN) — June 30, 2026: Catherine, Princess of Wales, has successfully completed Britain’s demanding Three Peaks Challenge in under 24 hours, raising funds for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, the specialist hospital where she received cancer treatment following her diagnosis in 2024.
The challenge required the Princess to climb the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales—a combined elevation of more than 3,000 metres—within a single day. The fundraising initiative is intended to support cancer patients and expand services at The Royal Marsden, where the Princess now serves as Joint Patron alongside Prince William.

In a video released after completing the challenge, Princess Kate explained her motivation, saying, “Lots of people have asked me why I’m doing this challenge. Partly it’s personal – I’m so grateful to be here, to be strong enough to walk these hills.” She added that her main purpose was “to give something back and acknowledge all the incredible work going on up and down this country.”
The Princess, now 44, announced in March 2024 that she had been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing preventive chemotherapy following abdominal surgery. In early 2025, she confirmed that she was in remission and has gradually resumed public duties while increasing her advocacy for cancer awareness and patient support.
Reflecting on her experience with cancer, Princess Kate said, “I’ve met some incredible people, those people who are living with and beyond cancer. And I know personally how difficult that journey is, and I really wanted to use this opportunity as my way of contributing to all the wonderful work that’s going on.”

According to Kensington Palace, the challenge also highlights the Princess’s commitment to promoting holistic cancer care, an approach that supports patients’ physical, emotional, mental and social wellbeing throughout treatment and recovery. In an accompanying statement, she said she hoped the initiative would help “explore life beyond a diagnosis,” noting that cancer “changes how you think and feel and profoundly affects every aspect of life.”
Princess Kate completed the endurance challenge privately before being welcomed by Prince William, their children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis—along with her parents Carole and Michael Middleton and her brother James Middleton.
Following the completion of the challenge, Kensington Palace published a fundraising appeal encouraging public donations to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. The charity supports pioneering cancer research, specialist treatment, advanced medical equipment and enhanced patient care across the United Kingdom.
