KARACHI — September 14, 2026: Well-known Sindhi lyricist, writer and poet Zulfiqar Khaki has appealed to Sindh Culture Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah for financial assistance from the department’s endowment fund to help meet his medical expenses and address financial difficulties affecting his household.

Khaki has also appealed to Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to consider his financial circumstances, which he said have been aggravated by unemployment among his children.

The poet highlighted his contribution to Sindhi literary and cultural work, particularly a dhamal dedicated to the poetry of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. According to Khaki, his work, “Har Bait Latif Jo Haq Sach,” was performed by Ustad Amir Ali Khan at the Shah Latif annual Urs in Bhit Shah around three decades ago and received appreciation from devotees attending the event.

Khaki also expressed his willingness to contribute to the Culture Department’s work if given an opportunity. He proposed that he could undertake field assignments aimed at documenting folk music and identifying lesser-known musical traditions in Thar and other parts of Sindh.

In another proposal, Khaki suggested improving the presentation of musical performances at the annual Urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. He expressed hope that the provincial Culture Department could explore cooperation with Chinese cultural experts to develop stage backgrounds, sound arrangements and visual elements inspired by characters and themes from Shah Jo Risalo.
