Trump Administration Suspends Indian Cognizant’s New Green Card Sponsorship Filings

The Trump administration has reportedly imposed restrictions on Cognizant, one of the largest Indian technology companies listed in the United States, suspending the company’s new green card sponsorship filings following an investigation into alleged misuse of U.S. visa programs, wage suppression and violations of the rights of American workers.

The U.S. Department of Labor has reportedly suspended Cognizant’s ability to file Permanent Labor Certification (PERM) applications, citing concerns that the company poses a significant risk to American workers.

Labor Department Inspector General Anthony DiSpiezio announced the action on X, saying that risks to American workers would not be tolerated.

The Labor Department is taking the action against Cognizant in coordination with the White House Fraud Task Force, according to the report.

PERM labor certification is a mandatory process through which U.S. employers seek to sponsor foreign workers for employment-based green cards. The suspension therefore affects Cognizant’s ability to initiate new employment-based permanent residency sponsorships for foreign employees.

Cognizant is also among the largest H-1B visa sponsors in the United States.
