FIR against Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi for ‘assaulting cops’ during Delhi protest

Delhi Police on Thursday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for allegedly assaulting police personnel during a protest in the national capital.

According to police sources, the FIR was lodged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code related to assault on public servants, obstruction of duty, and unlawful assembly. The incident reportedly took place when the Congress leaders, along with party workers, were participating in a demonstration against certain central government policies.

Police officials stated that the protesters attempted to breach barricades set up near a key government location, leading to a confrontation. During the scuffle, some personnel sustained minor injuries, prompting the filing of the case.

Congress spokespersons have dismissed the FIR as “political vendetta” and claimed the party leaders were peacefully exercising their democratic right to protest. They alleged that the police used excessive force against the demonstrators.

No arrests have been made so far. Investigation is underway, and police are examining video footage and statements from both sides.

The development comes amid heightened political tensions between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress ahead of upcoming electoral battles.
