Trump Confuses Brazil Presidential Election With India in Truth Social Post

U.S. President Donald Trump appeared to mistakenly refer to India instead of Brazil in a late-night Truth Social post while commenting on Brazil’s presidential election.
In his original post, Trump wrote that “125 Million People voted today in the first round of India’s Presidential Election,” adding that the results were announced shortly after voting ended. He then compared the process with elections in U.S. cities and states, including Detroit, Philadelphia and California, claiming that American election results can take weeks to “calculate” and alleging that “Voting in America is CORRUPT!!!”
Brazil held the first round of its presidential election on October 4, with around 125 million valid votes cast. The results were released rapidly after polls closed, in line with Brazil’s electronic voting system.
Incumbent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, advanced to the October 25 runoff after neither candidate secured a majority.
India, however, did not hold a presidential election. The Indian president is elected indirectly by an electoral college comprising elected members of Parliament and state legislatures. Current President Droupadi Murmu was elected in 2022, with the next presidential election scheduled for 2027.
Screenshots of Trump’s original post circulated widely online. Trump later edited or reposted the message, replacing “India’s” with “Brazil’s” while retaining the rest of his comments and criticism of the U.S. electoral system.
The apparent mix-up quickly attracted widespread attention and was reported by international media outlets on Monday.
