Afghan Taliban Govt to be Represented by Mullah Baradar at Ayatollah Khamenei’s Funeral

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has announced that Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar will represent the country at the state funeral ceremonies of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Baradar is scheduled to travel to Iran on Thursday to attend the high-profile events. The funeral proceedings, delayed for months after Khamenei’s assassination in US-Israeli strikes on February 28, 2026, are set to take place from July 4 to 9 across Tehran, Qom, Iraq, and finally Mashhad, where he will be laid to rest at the Imam Reza shrine.
This marks another significant diplomatic engagement by the Taliban leadership with Iran, following Baradar’s earlier attendance at President Ebrahim Raisi’s funeral in 2024.
