Australia Classifies India as High-Risk Country for Student Visas

Australia’s Department of Home Affairs has, in a decision effective today, included Indian students in the highest risk level for student visas, known as Evidence Level 3, thereby classifying India as a high-risk country.

In a press release issued by Australian immigration authorities, it was stated that this unusual measure has been taken to prevent document fraud and misuse of visas. Normally, such classifications are reviewed every year in June, but this time the action was taken in January, which indicates the seriousness of the matter.

Under the new rules now in effect, Indian students will now have to submit much stricter documentation for visas, including at least three months of bank statements, complete documentation of the sources of funds, verified academic records, and solid proof of English language proficiency.

The most important condition is that of the genuine student, under which students will have to prove that they are going to Australia only temporarily for education, and they must demonstrate that they are not obtaining the visa with the intention of working there or for permanent migration.

As a result of Australia’s this decision, significant delays in visa processing and a notable increase in the rejection rate for incomplete applications are expected.

It is noteworthy that Australian authorities claim that approximately 77% of Indian students do not return after completing their degree.
