ISLAMABAD (Dawn News) — August 07, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has reaffirmed Pakistan’s position that Israel does not have sovereignty over occupied East Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.
Dar made the remarks while addressing a ministerial meeting in Amman focused on the situation in Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories. His comments came amid renewed diplomatic discussions involving Arab and Muslim countries over the status of Jerusalem and access to its holy sites.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office had said Dar travelled to Jordan to participate in discussions on the deteriorating situation in occupied Jerusalem and the wider Palestinian issue.
Dar Condemns Al-Aqsa Incursions
Dar condemned what he described as continued incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque by “extremist Israeli settlers” and said such actions threatened the historical and religious character of Jerusalem’s holy sites.

“Pakistan condemns in the strongest possible terms the continued incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque by extremist Israeli settlers,” Dar said.
He added that such actions, in Pakistan’s assessment, undermine international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
“They undermine international law, disregard UN resolutions, and further erode the prospects of a just, comprehensive and lasting peace,” Dar said.

Recent reporting from the Amman meeting confirmed that Pakistan used the forum to call for greater Arab and Islamic coordination over the protection of Jerusalem’s holy sites.
Pakistan backs Jordan’s Role
Dar also reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Jordan’s longstanding role concerning the administration of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
He recognised the Jerusalem Endowment and Al-Aqsa Affairs Department, affiliated with Jordan’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, as the authority responsible for administering Al-Aqsa Mosque, according to the statement provided by Pakistan.
Dar said there should be no ambiguity regarding Pakistan’s position on East Jerusalem.
“All measures seeking to alter its character and status are null and void and without any legal effect,” he said.
The issue of Jerusalem’s status has long been addressed in United Nations resolutions, with international bodies maintaining that unilateral measures seeking to alter the status of occupied East Jerusalem do not change its internationally recognised status.

Dar also expressed concern over the situation in Gaza and the West Bank, saying the humanitarian situation in Gaza remained fragile.

He called for implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan and UN Security Council Resolution 2803, while urging stronger coordination among Arab and Islamic countries.
According to the remarks provided by Pakistan, Dar said that despite reported improvements following the ceasefire, food insecurity and health-related challenges continued to affect Gaza’s population.
Meetings with Regional Counterparts
On the sidelines of the Amman meeting, Dar held bilateral discussions with the foreign ministers of Türkiye, Algeria, Egypt, Jordan and Somalia, according to the Foreign Office.
During his meeting with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, the two officials discussed developments in the West Bank and Jordan’s role in protecting Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Dar also met with foreign ministers representing the R-4 Group, comprising Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.
The four countries have previously reaffirmed support for Palestinian self-determination and an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
