Heavy exchanges of fire are ongoing along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in the Spina Shaga sector in Upper Kurram, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, opposite areas in Afghanistan’s Paktia/Khost region after reports of cross-border firing. Both sides are reportedly using heavy weapons.

According to multiple sources on Wednesday (July 29, 2026), the clashes began following alleged unprovoked firing from the Afghan side targeting Pakistani positions near Spina Shaga in Kurram and linked sectors such as Ariob Zazai in Paktia. Pakistani border forces responded with heavy artillery and other weapons. The fighting as expanding to nearby points in Kurram District, including areas around Gidoo, Gavi, and Peiwar.

Spina Shaga lies in a sensitive stretch of the Durand Line frontier that has frequently witnessed cross-border incidents amid broader tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban authorities in Afghanistan over militancy, border security, and accusations of harboring groups.
