India Expands BrahMos Missile Exports, Seals Vietnam Deal; Indonesia Agreement Near Completion

India has expanded its defence footprint in Southeast Asia by finalizing an agreement to supply BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to Vietnam, while a similar defence deal with Indonesia has entered the final stages of negotiation.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue security conference in Singapore, Indian Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh confirmed that the BrahMos missile export agreement with Vietnam has been concluded. However, he said the official announcement of the deal would be made in the coming days.

Singh also indicated that discussions between India and Indonesia regarding the supply of BrahMos missiles are in their final phase, expressing optimism that significant progress on the agreement will be announced soon.

The development marks another milestone in India’s efforts to expand defence exports and strengthen strategic partnerships across Southeast Asia. The BrahMos missile, jointly developed by India and Russia, is regarded as one of the world’s fastest operational supersonic cruise missiles and has emerged as a key component of India’s defence export strategy.

The Philippines became the first foreign customer of the BrahMos missile system in 2022, and the latest agreements are expected to further enhance India’s defence ties with ASEAN nations while boosting regional maritime security capabilities.
