India has sharply intensified its diplomatic and intelligence activities in Bangladesh, with Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi holding a series of meetings with senior political and security officials before travelling to New Delhi, while Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief Parag Jain arrived in Dhaka with a four-member delegation.

According to details, Trivedi met Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman on Sunday. On Monday, he separately met Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed. Shortly after the high-level meetings, the Indian High Commissioner departed Dhaka for New Delhi.

Meanwhile, RAW chief Parag Jain arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Sunday afternoon aboard an Air India flight. He was accompanied by three senior RAW officials — Ashwin Mukund Kotnis, Rahul Negi and Shebal Roy Chowdhury.

The Indian intelligence delegation held a meeting on Monday with Brigadier General (retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam, adviser to Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on defence affairs. Jain is also scheduled to meet Major General Kaiser Rashid Chowdhury, head of Bangladesh’s Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), on Tuesday.

Significantly, despite the high-level diplomatic engagements and the reported arrival of the RAW chief in Dhaka, neither India nor Bangladesh has so far issued an official announcement regarding Parag Jain’s visit.

The simultaneous engagement of India’s diplomatic and intelligence leadership with senior Bangladeshi political, internal security and defence officials has highlighted a noticeable increase in New Delhi’s activities in Dhaka.
