India Issues Urgent Advisory Urging Remaining Nationals to Leave Iran Immediately

The Embassy of India in Tehran has issued a fresh security advisory directing all remaining Indian nationals in Iran to depart the country without delay, citing the volatile security situation linked to the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict.

The advisory, dated April 8, 2026, builds on previous notices issued on April 7 and earlier in the year. It specifically urges Indian citizens, including students, pilgrims, businesspersons, and tourists, to leave via embassy-recommended routes and available means of transport while maintaining close coordination with the mission.

“In continuation of previous advisories, Indian nationals who are still in Iran must stay where they are for the next 48 hours, avoiding all electric, military installations and upper floors of multi-storey buildings, remaining indoors, and coordinating any highway movement strictly with the Embassy,” the notice states. Those staying in embassy-arranged hotels have been instructed to remain indoors and keep regular contact with on-site embassy teams.

The embassy has also reiterated the need for nationals to keep passports, identification documents, and other travel papers readily available.

This latest alert comes as a fragile two-week ceasefire, reportedly brokered with involvement from Pakistan and China and announced around April 7–8, holds tentatively.

Indian officials have been actively facilitating departures where possible, with reports indicating hundreds of nationals, particularly students, have already exited via coordinated routes.

The Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi is closely monitoring the situation and has advised all Indians to avoid non-essential travel to the region and to follow official updates strictly.As ceasefire talks continue and regional mediation efforts unfold, the embassy emphasized the importance of vigilance and adherence to the guidelines to ensure the safety of Indian citizens.
