The Indian Navy’s INS Trishul and INS Aditya successfully escorted the crude oil tankers MT Compass and MT Thalatta through the high-risk Bab-el-Mandeb Strait on 9–10 August 2026, ensuring their safe transit.

The operation, announced by the Western Naval Command, underscores the Navy’s ongoing commitment to securing vital energy cargo and protecting Indian maritime interests in the Gulf of Aden and Red Sea region.

The Bab-el-Mandeb Strait remains a critical but vulnerable chokepoint for global oil shipments. By providing naval escort, the Indian Navy continues its efforts to safeguard seafarers and maintain the uninterrupted flow of energy supplies amid regional security challenges.

The Indian Navy reaffirmed its readiness to support the safe passage of commercial vessels in these waters.
