Indonesian Air Force Su-30 Fighter Jet Runs Off Runway at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport

Indonesia: An Indonesian Air Force Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jet ran off the runway while landing at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in South Sulawesi on Monday, August 24, 2026.

The incident occurred at around 11 a.m. local time when the aircraft reportedly overran Runway 13 and came to a stop in a grassy area beyond the runway.

Videos circulating on social media showed the Su-30 near the end of the runway, with light smoke visible behind the aircraft. The smoke was reportedly linked to grass catching fire due to the heat from the aircraft’s engines.

Airport authorities confirmed the incident but said commercial flight operations were not affected. Arrivals and departures continued normally using the airport’s other runway, 03/21.

Officials have yet to release details about the condition of the pilots, the extent of any damage to the aircraft or the circumstances that caused the runway overrun.

The incident has prompted an investigation by the relevant Indonesian authorities, while videos of the fighter jet have rapidly circulated on social media.
