Iran Open to Dialogue with Trump, Cites US Breaches and Threats as Barriers to Talks

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has sent a direct message to U.S. President Donald Trump, reaffirming Iran’s readiness for dialogue and agreements while pointing to American violations of commitments, ongoing blockades, and threats as the primary obstacles to meaningful negotiations.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has welcomed dialogue and agreement and continues to do so. Breach of commitments, blockade and threats are main obstacles to genuine negotiations. World sees your endless hypocritical rhetoric and contradiction between claims and actions,” Pezeshkian stated in the message.

The communication arrives as tensions simmer in the fragile U.S.-Iran ceasefire, which has been repeatedly tested by disputes over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a vital chokepoint carrying about one-fifth of global oil shipments. Recent incidents include reported attacks on ships in the strait, U.S. seizures of Iranian-linked vessels, and the maintenance of a naval blockade on Iranian ports despite extensions of the truce.

Pezeshkian’s latest outreach echoes his open letter to the American people issued earlier in April, in which he questioned whether the conflict truly advances “America First” priorities. In that message, he stressed that Iran holds no enmity toward ordinary Americans and urged the U.S. public to look past what he described as distortions and misinformation surrounding the war.

Both sides have signaled potential movement toward decisive talks this week, with indirect channels reportedly active and intermediaries, including Pakistan, involved at various points. However, deep divisions remain: Iran demands an end to blockades and asserts its nuclear rights, while the Trump administration continues economic and military pressure, insisting on strict compliance for any lasting deal.
