Mohammad Ali Tavakolizadeh, a senior official in Tehran’s municipal administration, said planning is underway for a large-scale public farewell, while discussions continue regarding the final timetable and logistical arrangements for the event. According to Iranian officials, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is overseeing funeral preparations.

Tavakolizadeh said that “three days have been allocated for the public to bid farewell” to the late leader. He further noted that “the ceremony in Tehran would last at least 24 hours,” reflecting expectations of significant public participation.
Officials said the funeral ceremonies will begin in Tehran before continuing to the holy city of Qom. The final stage of the funeral procession is expected to take place in Mashhad, where Khamenei is to be buried at the shrine of Imam Reza in accordance with his reported will.
