J.D. Vance Says US-Iran Talks End Without Agreement, Praises Pakistan’s Role

U.S. Vice President J. D. Vance stated that negotiations between the United States and Iran concluded without an agreement after 21 hours of intensive discussions, while commending Pakistan’s leadership for its facilitation efforts.

Vance thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir for hosting the talks, noting that “any shortcomings of the negotiation” were not due to Pakistan. He said the hosts “did an amazing job” and made sincere efforts to help both sides bridge differences.

Describing the outcome, Vance said that while there were “a number of substantive discussions” with the Iranian side, no agreement could be reached. He termed the development as “bad news for Iran much more than it’s bad news for the United States.”

He emphasized that Washington had clearly outlined its red lines, including the need for a firm and long-term commitment from Iran not to pursue nuclear weapons or the capability to rapidly develop them. According to Vance, Iran chose not to accept these terms.

“I won’t go into all the details because I don’t want to negotiate in public after we negotiated for 21 hours in private,” he said, while stressing that the core objective remains preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons in the long term.

Vance also confirmed that issues such as Iranian frozen assets were discussed, along with several other matters, but no breakthrough was achieved.

On coordination during the talks, he said the delegation remained in constant contact with President Donald Trump and the national security team, speaking multiple times throughout the negotiations.

He concluded by stating that the United States has presented its “final and best offer,” adding that it remains to be seen whether Iran will accept the proposal.
