Jemima Goldsmith Appeals to Pakistan’s PM for Sons’ Visas to Visit Imprisoned Imran Khan

Jemima Goldsmith, the former wife of jailed Pakistani ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan, has made an emotional public appeal to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging the immediate issuance of visas for her two sons, Sulaiman and Kasim Khan, to visit their father in Adiala Jail.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) dated March 16, 2026, Goldsmith revealed that her sons applied for visas in January to see Imran Khan, whom they have not met since 2022 following his survival of an assassination attempt.

She stated that Pakistan’s consulate typically processes online visa applications within 7–10 working days, yet more than 60 days have passed without approval.

Goldsmith highlighted prior public assurances from senior officials, including Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif in an interview with Mehdi Hasan and Prime Minister’s spokesperson Mosharraf Zaidi speaking to Sky News’ Yalda Hakim, that the sons could safely travel to Pakistan to see their father after four years of separation. These promises, she said, remain unfulfilled.

The family has been denied phone contact or the ability to send letters to Khan, intensifying concerns over his well-being. Goldsmith noted reports indicating his health is in decline while he remains in detention.

This latest plea follows earlier reports from February 2026, when Khan’s sons publicly accused the government of deliberately blocking or delaying their visa applications amid fears for their father’s deteriorating condition, including reported vision issues in one eye during solitary confinement.

Goldsmith also claimed her X account has been throttled, following a reported arrangement between Elon Musk and the Pakistani government to lift an earlier platform ban, limiting visibility within Pakistan. She called on users, particularly UK-based Pakistanis, to retweet the message to amplify the humanitarian request.

The appeal has drawn mixed reactions online, with supporters expressing solidarity and calling for Khan’s release or better medical access, while critics dismissed the claims or questioned the sons’ efforts from abroad.

Imran Khan has been imprisoned since August 2023 on multiple charges, many of which his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party describes as politically motivated. The case continues to fuel tensions between PTI supporters and the ruling PML-N-led coalition government.
