King Charles III to Make Historic State Visit to the USA This Month

Britain’s King Charles III and Queen Camilla will undertake a four-day state visit to the USA from April 27 to 30, 2026, Buckingham Palace and the White House have confirmed. The trip will include a private meeting between the King and President Donald Trump, a joint address by the monarch to Congress, and a formal state banquet at the White House.

The royal couple is scheduled to visit Washington, D.C., New York, and Virginia for a series of public engagements. These events are designed to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence and to highlight the historic and modern ties between the United Kingdom and the United States.

King Charles will become only the second British monarch to address a joint meeting of Congress, following Queen Elizabeth II’s speech in 1991. Congressional leaders from both parties, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, formally extended the invitation for the address on April 28, describing it as an opportunity to reaffirm the enduring “special relationship” between the two nations.

President Trump has described the visit as a “historic” and “momentous occasion.” He announced plans for a “beautiful” state banquet at the White House on the evening of April 28, with First Lady Melania Trump hosting Queen Camilla separately. The president and the King are also expected to hold a private meeting, continuing the momentum from Trump’s own state visit to the UK last year, which included a dinner hosted by the royal couple at Windsor Castle.

Buckingham Palace stated that the programme will celebrate the shared heritage and bilateral relationship between the UK and the US. The visit represents King Charles’s first state trip to America as monarch and the first by a British sovereign in nearly two decades.

The announcement follows earlier speculation about the timing amid various international developments, but officials on both sides have proceeded with the plans to strengthen transatlantic ties.
