Pakistan has issued the Foreign Media Facilitation Guidelines 2026, tightening procedures for foreign journalists and media organisations operating in the country.

Under the new rules, accredited foreign media personnel must obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting before travelling outside Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi for news coverage.

The guidelines mandate registration of foreign media organisations, journalists, freelancers, fixers and other affiliated personnel through the External Publicity (EP) Wing’s online portal. Overseas Pakistani journalists contributing to foreign media outlets are also required to apply via Pakistan’s diplomatic missions abroad.

The policy introduces two categories of press accreditation cards: permanent (annual) cards and temporary cards valid for up to three months. Eligible journalists who receive accreditation will be facilitated at official events and government premises, but must carry and present their cards on demand.
