Pakistan Secures Malaysian Support for Proposed US-Iran Mediation Talks

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Thursday morning, during which he briefed his counterpart on Islamabad’s diplomatic initiatives aimed at bringing the United States and Iran to the negotiating table to help end the ongoing Middle East conflict.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Sharif expressed appreciation for Anwar’s strong endorsement of Pakistan-led mediation efforts. He updated the Malaysian leader on recent discussions with leaders of Gulf countries and Iran focused on de-escalation and dialogue.

Anwar offered Malaysia’s full support for Pakistan’s peace initiatives and shared details of his own conversations with international leaders, where he similarly stressed the urgent need to resolve the Middle East war. Both prime ministers exchanged Eid ul Fitr greetings and prayed for unity and progress within the Ummah.

The call comes shortly after Sharif publicly offered that Pakistan stands ready to host direct talks between Washington and Tehran, subject to mutual agreement. Anwar had earlier welcomed the proposal as “timely and constructive,” commending Pakistan and other nations like Oman for stepping forward at a critical time of regional tension. He encouraged the US and Iran to respond positively to the initiative.

During the conversation, the two leaders agreed to remain in close contact as efforts to promote peace and stability in the region continue.No immediate comments from US or Iranian officials were reported regarding the latest developments in the mediation push.
