Indian intelligence agencies have issued a fresh security alert warning that proscribed Khalistani terrorist organizations and Bangladesh-based terror outfits may attempt attacks in Delhi and other major cities around Republic Day on January 26.

Citing inputs shared with news agency ANI, sources indicate that Punjab-based gangsters are increasingly being recruited as “foot soldiers” by radical handlers operating from abroad. These criminal networks are allegedly being leveraged to advance separatist and disruptive agendas, with active operations reported in Haryana, Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. The gangsters are said to be gradually forging operational links with Khalistani elements.

In response to the intelligence, Delhi and several other cities have been placed on heightened alert. North District Police in the capital conducted multiple mock drills during the first half of January at sensitive and high-traffic locations, including vital installations, historical sites such as the Red Fort, prominent markets like Chandni Chowk, transport hubs including ISBT Kashmere Gate, and metro stations. The exercises tested response times, coordination among agencies, and overall preparedness to counter potential terror incidents.

Security measures have been significantly ramped up in anticipation of the 77th Republic Day celebrations, which will feature a grand parade along Kartavya Path with at least 30 tableaux showcasing India’s cultural heritage and developmental achievements under themes honoring “Vande Mataram” and “Aatmanirbhar Bharat.”

Authorities emphasized that such alerts are routine ahead of major national events, and no specific attack has been confirmed as imminent. The focus remains on proactive vigilance, enhanced patrolling, and public awareness to ensure peaceful celebrations.

Citizens in Delhi and surrounding areas are urged to remain alert, report any suspicious activity to authorities immediately, and follow official advisories from Delhi Police and other security agencies. Security forces continue to monitor developments closely to neutralize any threats.
