US Embassy, Consulates Temporarily Suspend Services Amid Unrest in Pakistan

Islamabad (The News International) — March 02, 2026: The United States Embassy in Islamabad and US Consulates in Karachi, Lahore, and Peshawar have temporarily suspended visa appointments and American Citizen Services including passport processing in Pakistan, citing rising security concerns linked to nationwide protests.

The move follows violent demonstrations across multiple Pakistani cities triggered by the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in recent U.S.–Israeli airstrikes on Iranian territory. These strikes have sparked public unrest in Pakistan, with protests seen outside U.S. diplomatic missions and other government offices.

According to official statements and security advisories, all routine services at the U.S. diplomatic missions have been halted temporarily to protect staff and the public, and to prevent possible escalation around these sensitive sites. The suspension affects visa processing and consular assistance until the security situation stabilises.
