Visa Overstay: Indian Woman Who Married in Pakistan Faces Delayed Repatriation
Indian Sikh woman Sarbjit Kaur, who was illegally residing in Pakistan, could not be deported to India via the Wagah Border yesterday due to incomplete documentation, after which Sarbjit Kaur was transferred to a shelter house.
According to sources from the Indian Border Security Force, members of Sarbjit Kaur’s family had also arrived at the Attari Border yesterday to receive her, but they returned disappointed in the evening.
Sarbjit Kaur, a resident of Kapurthala district in Punjab, had come to Pakistan in November 2025 with a large group of Sikh pilgrims for the celebrations of the 556th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Her visa expired on November 13, 2025, but she did not return to India.
During her stay in Pakistan, she converted to Islam and married Pakistani citizen Nasir Hussain, after which she changed her name to Noor Hussain.
On January 4, police arrested Sarbjit Kaur and her husband Nasir Hussain from Pehre Wali village near Nankana Sahib and decided to deport Sarbjit Kaur to India.
Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee President and Punjab Minister for Minority Affairs Ramesh Singh Arora has confirmed that Sarbjit will be deported due to violation of visa laws.
On January 5, FIA officials took her to the Wagah Border where all preparations for deportation were complete. However, at the last moment, the process of sending her to India was halted.
Meanwhile, former head of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, Sardar Mahinderpal Singh, told Jang newspaper that the Ministry of Interior has completed the documentation for deporting Sarbjit Kaur, and she will be sent back to India in the next two days.
